Tongue Ties, Lip Ties, Cheek Ties

Oral function affects breastfeeding and so many other functions in the bodies of our babies. When ties and oral dysfunction are missed, or the parent’s intuition is ignored we lose an opportunity to impact this child for a lifetime. Oral ties are not a fad, not something children grow out of, or that tear on their own during toddlerhood.

My approach

I focus on function first. Every infant struggles with ties a little differently. Our babies are intelligent and they find a way to work with what they have to ensure they are fed. I identify what that infant is struggling with and work to help you both prepare for a release and heal well. Breastfeeding is a relationship and working to address the infant and the mother’s symptoms is my ultimate goal.

  • Initial Visit- at this visit i’ll collect a detailed history and symptoms list, assess infant feeding at the breast or bottle, and do an in depth functional oral assessment. I will provide education and first steps and strategies to address symptoms.

  • Pre - release prep- if your infant does have ties and you’d like to release them I will give you at home bodywork and oral exercises to help you and baby prepare for the release and provide you with a referral to a release provider that meets your needs.

  • Post - release care- after the release I will meet with you 2-4 times to go over oral exercises and wound care, and to check the release site as it heals. As your infant heals we will continue to evolve your homework and at home care to help you both get to a functional comfortable place in your feeding journey.

FAQ’s

  • Yes! This care will be covered under our insurance covered lactation care. Read more about insurance and check your coverage here

  • Oral ties are complicated and releasing them has recently become controversial due to misinformation. Most providers just simply don’t have the education or experience required to provide adequate oral tie care.

  • Unfortunately, yes. After five years and hundreds of families and education I can confidently say that it is paramount. The release itself isn’t going to fix all of your symptoms. It is a process to gain oral function and it can be one that families aren’t prepared to tackle. I can help you navigate that too.

This is why oral tie care is important

  • Kaylen has been amazing from the first minute I reached out to her about my little man. Dealing with burnout and feeling like I was running in circles trying to find answers for my little one’s discomfort I desperately looked for someone to help give me some answers and I found Kaylen. She has been an answered prayer helping both me and my baby. From discovering my little one’s tongue and lip tie, to helping him relearn how to eat properly, to comforting a first-time worried mom, she has been nothing but kind, understanding and encouraging through such a hard time. Forever grateful I found Haven Lactation.

  • We felt let down by our providers who assured us nothing was wrong, only to sit down with Kaylen and feel so validated after discovering the severity of bubs tongue and lip tie. With Kaylen’s knowledge and guidance, she referred us to a dentist for the procedure who did an incredible job. The healing process has been tough, but Kaylen made sure to meet with us in person to check on little man’s progress, as well as be incredibly responsive and helpful in text between appointments. We’re so excited to continue seeing her for several visits to come, and hopefully get to a place where both I and our little man are happy and thriving with our nursing journey. If you’re debating visiting with Kaylen, just do it! I promise you won’t regret it. Out of everything we’ve done during both pregnancy and postpartum to support bubs, by miles this is what my husband and I both feel the best about and like was most beneficial for our baby. You can truly tell when someone’s loves and has passion for what they do, and Kaylen certainly does!

  • I would 100% recommend Haven Lactation! I’m so grateful for Kaylen and her expertise. She helped identify our daughters oral restrictions, referred us to a great dentist for revision, and at a follow up appointment gave us some exercises to help our little one. She’s not only knowledgeable but very intuitive as well. She has a very kind, friendly and reassuring presence. Seriously can’t say enough about how much I loved the experience of working with her.
